Terms of Service

Effective Date: March 3, 2026

Welcome to LearnAbout, an online educational platform operated by LightTree, LLC ("LightTree," "we," "us," or "our"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the LearnAbout platform, including our website, applications, and all related services (collectively, the "Service").

Please read these Terms carefully before using LearnAbout. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using LearnAbout, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you are creating an account on behalf of your family, you represent that you have the authority to bind yourself and your household members to these Terms.

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective Date" at the top of this page and notify you of material changes via email or a prominent notice within the Service. Your continued use of LearnAbout after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.

2. Description of Service

LearnAbout is a gamified learning management system designed for homeschool families. The Service provides:

  • Structured educational curriculum content organized by skills and tiers
  • Interactive quizzes and assessments powered by H5P technology
  • Progress tracking for students, including quiz scores, experience points (XP), and time spent learning
  • Parent dashboards to monitor and manage student progress
  • Gamification features such as XP, achievements, and learning streaks to encourage student engagement

LearnAbout is intended as a supplemental educational tool for homeschool families. It is not a substitute for a complete formal education program, and we do not guarantee any specific educational outcomes. Parents remain responsible for ensuring their children's education meets applicable local, state, or national requirements.

3. Account Registration and Eligibility

Parent Accounts

To use LearnAbout, you must create a parent account. You must be at least 18 years of age to register. When you create an account, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration
  • Keep your account credentials secure and confidential
  • Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use of your account
  • Accept responsibility for all activity that occurs under your account

You may only create one parent account per individual. Accounts are personal and may not be shared with, transferred to, or sold to any other person.

Student Profiles

As a parent, you may add one or more student profiles under your account. For each student profile, you will provide a display name, birth date, and other information necessary for the learning experience. You represent that you are the parent or legal guardian of each student you add and that you have the legal authority to provide their information and consent to their use of the Service.

Student Login Credentials

You may optionally create a username and password for your student so they can log in independently. Student accounts are linked to your parent email address — we do not collect email addresses directly from children. You are responsible for supervising your student's use of LearnAbout and for maintaining the security of any student login credentials you create.

4. Parental Consent and Children's Privacy

COPPA Compliance (United States)

LearnAbout complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not collect personal information from children under 13 without verified parental consent. By creating a student profile for a child under 13, you, as the parent or legal guardian, provide your consent for LearnAbout to collect and use the limited information associated with that student profile as described in our Privacy Policy.

The information we collect about students is limited to:

  • Display name (which may be a first name, nickname, or alias — a real full name is not required)
  • Birth date (used to tailor the educational experience)
  • Learning activity data (quiz scores, XP earned, time spent on activities, progress through curriculum)

We do not collect the following from students:

  • Email addresses (the parent's email is used for account communications)
  • Photographs or videos
  • Precise geolocation data
  • Contact information of any kind

LearnAbout does not include social features, messaging, forums, or any mechanism for students to communicate with other users or share content publicly.

International Users

For families in Canada, the European Union, the United Kingdom, or other jurisdictions with data protection laws governing children's data (including PIPEDA and GDPR), the same parental consent principles apply. By creating a student profile, you consent to the collection and processing of your child's information as described in these Terms and our Privacy Policy. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for detailed information about international data handling, your rights, and how to exercise them.

Withdrawing Consent

You may withdraw your consent for the collection of your child's data at any time by deleting their student profile from your account or by contacting us at the address listed in Section 13. Upon withdrawal of consent, we will delete the student's personal information, though we may retain anonymized, aggregated data that cannot be used to identify any individual.

5. Subscription and Billing

Plans

LearnAbout offers the following subscription options:

  • Free Tier: Access for one (1) student profile with access to core curriculum features at no charge.
  • Paid Tiers: Additional student profiles and premium features are available through monthly or annual paid subscriptions. Current pricing and plan details are available on our pricing page.

Payment Processing

Payments are processed securely through third-party payment providers, currently Stripe and/or PayPal. By subscribing to a paid plan, you agree to the applicable payment provider's terms of service. LightTree does not store your full credit card number or payment account credentials on our servers.

Auto-Renewal

Paid subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period (monthly or annually) unless you cancel before the renewal date. You will be charged the then-current rate for your plan at each renewal. We will notify you of any price changes before they take effect.

Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. Upon cancellation:

  • You will retain access to paid features through the end of your current billing period.
  • Your account will revert to the Free Tier at the end of the billing period.
  • Student profiles and learning data are preserved, but access may be limited to the features available under the Free Tier.

Refund Policy

We want you to be confident in your choice to use LearnAbout. The following refund policies apply:

  • Annual Plans: If you are not satisfied, you may request a full refund within 30 days of your initial purchase or renewal. After 30 days, annual subscriptions are non-refundable.
  • Monthly Plans: Monthly subscriptions are non-refundable. You may cancel at any time to prevent future charges.

To request a refund, please contact us using the information in Section 13.

9. Termination

Termination by You

You may close your account at any time by contacting us. Upon account closure, we will delete your personal information and your students' information in accordance with our Privacy Policy, subject to any legal retention obligations.

Termination by Us

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if:

  • You violate these Terms
  • You engage in activity that could harm the Service, other users, or LightTree
  • Your account has been inactive for an extended period (we will notify you before taking action)
  • We are required to do so by law

If we terminate your account for a reason other than a Terms violation, we will provide reasonable notice and, for paid subscribers, a pro-rated refund for any unused portion of a prepaid subscription period.

Effect of Termination

Upon termination, your right to access the Service ceases immediately. We may delete your account data after a reasonable retention period, except as required by law or as described in our Privacy Policy.

10. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

Our total cumulative liability to you for any and all claims arising from or related to the Service shall not exceed the total amount you have paid to LightTree in the twelve (12) months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or fifty U.S. dollars ($50.00), whichever is greater.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or liabilities. In those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the greatest extent permitted by law.

If the dispute cannot be resolved through negotiation within thirty (30) days, either party may pursue resolution through binding arbitration administered in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association, conducted in the State of [Your State].

You agree that any dispute resolution proceedings will be conducted on an individual basis and not as part of a class, consolidated, or representative action.
